Joe Paterno Sees A Future In College Football Megaconferences

Aged Joe Paterno may be, but Penn State’s eternal skipper isn’t blind to the shifts in the landscape of the modern college game:

↵“I think expansion is coming,” Paterno said today on a Big Ten coaches’ teleconference. […] “I think the trend is there are going to be bigger conferences.” […] “It would appear to me that with the television situation what it is and the great impact that it has on exposure and what that exposure does to recruiting, we’re naive to think ... we can sit back and see everybody else move ahead because they’re going to move ahead. We better start thinking about where we’re going.”
↵That last bit is the important part. You won’t see a conference expansion discussion anywhere, not one, that’s not wholly predicated on reacting to the previous actions of another conference. This all reads like the end of The Butter Battle Book.
