With the Canucks’ thrilling Game 1 victory over the Kings in the books, fans from both sides have had time to recuperate following their white-knuckler and digest what happened. Canucks fans over at SB Nation’s Nuck’s Misconduct applauded some of their front office’s prescient moves last summer, and are anticipating a tight series the rest of the way:
Canucks And Kings Fans React To Vancouver’s Game 1 Win Over LA
When the Vancouver Canucks signed Mikael Samuelsson as a free agent last summer, there were some people who weren't terribly impressed. What's so great about a 3rd liner from the Detroit Red Wings? Well not only did he have a career season, but he showed exactly why Mike Gillis pounced at the opportunity to pick him up. Samuelsson picked up the tying goal for the Canucks after the Kings opened the scoring, and then fired home the winner in OT on a pass from the NHL's leading scorer, Henrik Sedin. The Canucks took game one, and if last night's game is any indication we are in for a hell of a series.
Meanwhile, Kings fans at Jewels From The Crown looked for a silver lining in Thursday’s loss:
First of all, what a freaking game. I wasn't completely stressed out until the puck dropped to start the game, but once it did, I was completely captivated.[...]
Even though the Kings lost the opening game, there are definitely positives to take from this one. Here are a few:
Jonathan Quick was great. Whatever he did to refocus did the job and he made some insane saves to keep his team in the game. He was the player of the night for the Kings, no question and was the only one who was consistent through the entire game.
I'm definitely grateful that Brad Richardson was okay after his forced face plant into the boards courtesy of Andrew Alberts. Supplementary discipline? I'd expect it and I'm not going to lay out the reasons why; that story was a few months ago.
Game 2 is scheduled for Saturday at 10 PM.
