Phillies Fan May Have Set New Low For Poor Ballpark Behavior

Normally, a blogger presented with a story of Philadelphia fans acting up would use the occasion to perpetuate the negative stereotypes of belligerence and turpitude often associated with the city’s sports fans. But really, how fair is that? Every fan base without exception has its bad eggs. Maybe the bad eggs in Philly just happen to stink the worst.↵↵But let’s not make this about Philadelphia fans. It’s so easy to try to distance them from the rest of us, but really, we’re all people, and it’s a sad day for humanity when a ↵grown man intentionally pukes on an 11-year-old girl then attacks her father at a baseball game. Especially when the father happens to be an off-duty captain for the police force in nearby Easton, Pa. Because that’s exactly what went down at Wednesday night’s Phillies-Nationals game at Citizens Bank Park. ↵

↵↵⇥That fan -- identified by police as Matthew Clemens -- was sitting with another, unrelated group of fans who were also disciplined for acting out when he allegedly did what [Capt. Michael] Vangelo describes as the “most disgusting thing” he’s ever seen.↵⇥↵⇥Clemens, 21, positioned himself behind the 11-year-old’s chair, stuck his fingers down his throat and vomited on the girl and her father, police said.↵⇥

↵⇥↵⇥Clemens then began wailing on Vangelo after he pushed him away from the girl -- hitting the off-duty officer in the head and neck, causing his ear to bleed, police said.↵⇥

↵↵↵Fan violence is regrettably not a new phenomenon at a stadium, but inducing vomit on a little girl’s head is one for the scumbag record books. According to the report, Clemens was still vomiting on the people holding him down prior to his arrest, meaning he had chugged some Ipecac before the game, or else he possesses some sort of freakish vomiting superpower. Who knows what other acts of malevolence he’s capable of?↵
