San Jose, CA (Sports Network) - Joe Pavelski scored with 31.3 seconds left in regulation to send the game to overtime, and Devin Setoguchi scored on the power play 5:22 into the extra session to lift San Jose to a much-needed 6-5 win over Colorado in Game 2 of their Western Conference quarterfinal series.
Sharks Still Have Bite Left After Overtime Victory Over Avalanche
Down 5-4 late in the third, the Sharks were staring at a 2-0 series deficit for the second consecutive season as the No. 1 seed in the West.
As was the case for most of the game, San Jose controlled the puck in the offensive zone trying to force OT. With time winding down, Craig Anderson was caught out of position after a save and Pavelski fired the rebound into a half-open net with 31.3 seconds showing.
Avalanche defenseman Adam Foote was called for interference 4:28 into OT, and Ryane Clowe came out with the puck after a battle on the boards before sending a shot on net. Setoguchi was stationed in front and redirected it through the pads of Anderson, whose 46-save effort went for naught.
Setoguchi also scored in regulation for the Sharks, whose only lead in the game came at the end. Manny Malhotra, Rob Blake and Scott Nichol also tallied for San Jose, which got 17 saves on 22 shots from Evgeni Nabokov.
Chris Stewart, who scored the game-winner in the series opener, lit the lamp twice for the Avs, who also received goals from Kyle Cumiskey, Milan Hejduk and Brandon Yip.
Game 3 of this set is scheduled for Sunday night in Denver.
