Ndamukong Suh Gives Nebraska Big Bucks Before His Big Payday

In case you needed another reason to root for Ndamukong Suh, this one’s pretty good: He just announced at Nebraska’s spring game that he’s donating $2 million to Nebraska’s strength and conditioning program and another $600,000 to endow an engineering scholarship.That’s an absurd amount of money for someone who hasn’t even inked an NFL contract to pledge, but it’s likely a sum that will be paid in the future, won’t eat up much of what will be an eight-figure rookie deal, and probably works as a charitable donation. But it’s also absurdly cool: Suh’s giving money to the program that helped make him millions and to an academic discipline that he benefited from, as a construction management graduate and son of an engineer.

This sort of thing makes Tim Tebow’s autograph sessions -- which benefit Tebow’s family foundation -- seem like less noble charity. And if that money helps the strength and conditioning program create more beastly athletes like Suh who are also fine people, the Blackshirts may live up to their legendary legacy -- on and off the field -- for some time to come.
