Utah’s Mehmet Okur Has Torn Achilles, Will Miss Rest Of Playoffs

Awful, awful news for the Utah Jazz: center Mehmet Okur has a torn Achilles tendon. The injury was suffered during the Game 1 match-up against the Denver Nuggets.

Okur needs surgery and will likely miss the world championships this summer in his native Turkey. He flew home to Salt Lake City on Sunday after an MRI revealed the tear.

Okur will miss the remainder of the NBA playoffs.

On Friday, our Jazz blogger over at SLC Dunk clued us in on why Okur is so valuable.

His most recent name is slow-mo-Memo. You can see his move coming a mile away and he even has to start it with 10 seconds on the clock just to avoid the violation, but you can’t stop it.

Clearly, this is a very different team without the big man. For reactions from Jazz fans, head on over to SLC Dunk.
