Josh Willingham Knows Best
At one point over the weekend, the Nationals were actually above .500 at the latest point that they’ve been during any season in the last four years. Of course, the previous best was the fifth game of the 2007 season. At no point during the 2006, 2008 and 2009 campaigns did the team’s wins outnumber its losses. And they fell back to .500 Sunday, but a new benchmark has been reached. The season is a success!
So suffice it to say, things have to be a little more relaxed than usual around the Nationals clubhouse, given the modest success. The fact that on Friday Josh Willingham conducted a post-game interview while wearing a solid Elvis-hair-shaped object on his head and being badgered by his young son isn’t necessarily reflective of the new-found levity, but it’s nice to pretend that it is. Also, it makes for incredibly amusing television. The only things missing are matching silver sideburns for his son.
