West Virginia Decides Now Is the Time for More Compliance

Update: Per a member of the West Virginia compliance office, the job opening being filled is for Chad Wall, a WVU director of compliance who is leaving for a position at Virginia Commonwealth. The timing appears to be coincidental.
Original post follows.
Last Tuesday, news broke that the NCAA was investigating West Virginia regarding possible rules violations under Rich Rodriguez. So what does West Virginia do in response? According to Voodoo Five, last Wednesday, the school placed an ad for a director of compliance.
West Virginia’s had employees who are responsible for compliance on staff and they have spoken to reporters in the past. But hiring a new director of compliance, or additional personnel, immediately after an NCAA investigation is announced? That could be spectacularly poor timing that allows bloggers like me to speculate about smoke and fire in Morgantown, or an indication that there might actually be both smoke and fire in Morgantown.
Of course, Rodriguez allegedly shredding documents as he was on his way out the door to Michigan seems a bit shady, especially because it was eventually confirmed that documents are missing. But, at the time, that was only shady in the context of Rodriguez trying to bail on WVU; with NCAA allegations in the picture now, we may be hearing more about those documents in the future.
