Ohio State junior guard Evan Turner took home the AP Player of the Year award, according to CBS Sports. The 6'7'' Turner, who averaged 20.3 points, 9.2 rebounds and 5.9 assists per game for the Buckeyes, received 54 of the 65 votes en route to his runaway victory. Kentucky freshman point guard John Wall finished second with nine votes, with West Virginia's Da'Sean Butler and Notre Dame's Luke Harangody each receiving a vote as well.

Turner guided the Buckeyes to a share of the Big Ten regular season title, as well as the Big Ten tournament championship, and a No. 2 seed in the NCAA tournament. Turner sat out six games in December and early January after breaking bones in his back after a scary fall on a dunk in a game against Eastern Michigan.
Turner returned weeks earlier than expected, leading Thad Matta’s squad back atop the Big Ten standings. While the Buckeyes bowed out earlier in the NCAA Tournament than expected, falling 76-73 to Tennessee in the Sweet 16, Turner’s eye-opening play down the stretch has even prompted questions of whether he should go No. 1 overall in the upcoming NBA Draft (assuming he leaves school early).
Turner is the first Buckeye to win Player of the Year since Gary Bradds in 1964.
