What’s the meaning of 420? It varies from person-to-person. If you’re 18-22, it means you’re skipping class and smoking as much pot as possible, all in the name of, well, getting high. If you’re over 22, you’re waking up this morning, making some coffee, taking a shower and going to work, where you’ll later realize today is April 20th, at which point you’ll feel very, very old and responsible for not making big plans to smoke pot today.
Happy 420, Bros. Now Let’s Get High On SPORTS!
↵And if you’re like us, and you write for SB Nation, you’re getting stoned on ... SPORTS! Cause we like them! Some reasons to appreciate 420, the all natural way:
↵
- ↵
- Don Mattingly was born on this day in 1961. He never did drugs. Other things he never did: Won a World Series, tallied more than 2,200 hits, made the Hall of Fame. Don't tell Yankees fans any of this. ↵
- The1988 Orioles set the record for worst start to a MLB season, going 0-14. They would go on to start the year 0-21. They would later right the ship and go on to win FIFTY-FOUR whole games! ↵
- Fenway Park officially opened in 1912, marking the greatest moment in sports history. And no on denies this. ↵
- In 1939, Ted Williams had his first major league at-bat, which ended in a strikeout. No one ever heard from him again. ↵
- NFL legalized coaching from the bench in 1941. We have no idea where they coached from prior to 1941. ↵
↵So, put some of THAT in your pipe and smoke it, hippies. Now, who will make sports history on this 4/20? I’m going to guess it’ll involve John Danks in some way. GET IT?
↵
↵/Not high
↵
↵//Seriously, it’s just the allergy medication
↵
↵UPDATE: Inhistoric has some more brain munchies for you, including Don King beating a man to death in a bar altercation.
