Vancouver Scores Four Goals In Final Period For 6-4 Victory, Evens Series With Kings 2-2

Los Angeles, CA (Sports Network) – Henrik Sedin took a feed from his brother, Daniel, and scored the game-winning goal with 2:52 to play, and the Vancouver Canucks evened their Western Conference quarterfinal series with a 6-4 Game 4 win over the Los Angeles Kings.

Henrik Sedin also added an assist, while Daniel Sedin had three helpers for the Canucks, who will look to take the lead in this series on Friday in Vancouver. Christian Ehrhoff tallied a goal and an assist, while Mikael Samuelsson lit the lamp and has now scored in every game in the series.

Ryan Kesler, Pavol Demitra and Sami Salo also scored, and Roberto Luongo made 22 saves for the Canucks.

Dustin Brown and Wayne Simmonds had a goal and an assist for the Kings, who have won seven of 10 series when tied after four games. Drew Doughty and Anze Kopitar both found the back of the net, and Alexander Frolov had a pair of assists.

Jonathan Quick allowed five goals on 36 shots in defeat.

The Kings entered the third ahead by a goal, but Vancouver struck twice to take the lead.

At the 7:29 mark of the final period, Daniel Sedin held the puck at the left point and fired a slap-pass to Samuelsson, whose deflection from the slot fluttered over Quick’s left shoulder for a 3-3 game.

Los Angeles received a bench minor a couple minutes later, the Canucks scored again to move in front. Daniel Sedin had the disc behind the net and dished to Henrik Sedin in the right circle. The puck was then sent to Salo, who blasted a slapshot from the top of the slot into the net at 12:16.

Only 1:02 after Vancouver went in front, the Kings tied it on Simmonds’ tally. Jack Johnson fired a slapshot from the point that sailed wide, but Ryan Smyth played the bounce perfectly and sent a shot into Luongo’s pads. The puck bounced out in front to Simmonds, who sent the disc into the open net for a 4-4 game.

With time winding down, the Canucks notched what proved to be the game-winner. Daniel Sedin and Henrik Sedin skated down the right side of the ice and executed a perfect give-and-go, with Henrik Sedin skating into the slot and ripping a wrister over Quick’s left shoulder.

Los Angeles pulled Quick with just over a minute to play, but Kesler sent the puck into the empty net with 16.1 seconds left to seal the win.

Los Angeles notched the only goal of the first period while on the power play. Brown tried to stuff the puck into the net from in close, but Luongo made the save; Luongo couldn’t corral the disc cleanly, and Doughty pinched in from the point and sent a backhand past Luongo at the 13:26 mark.

Vancouver tied the score on the power play at 3:36 of the second on Ehrhoff’s rocket slapshot from the right circle, but Brown put the Kings ahead again, 2-1, with a one-timer from the slot for a power play tally at 5:56.

The two teams traded goals once again before the period concluded. Demitra made it a 2-2 game with a snap shot from in close at 15:35, but Simmonds sent a perfect pass from the boards to Kopitar, who tipped the puck into the top left corner from the mouth of the crease at 17:09.

Doughty has an assist in every game this series…The team that has scored first has lost each contest in this set…Both teams went 2-for-4 on the power play, and the Kings are now 9-for-16 with the man advantage in the series…Samuelsson is tied with Detroit’s Henrik Zetterberg for the league lead with five playoff goals.
