Ovechkin Sprays Ice at Kid, Reinforces One Side of Angry Hockey Debate
↵
↵Last night during pregame festivities in the run-up of Game 4 of the Washington-Montreal series, Alexander Ovechkin braked in front of a kid who was holding a Canadiens flag near the Capitals bench, sending a spray of ice in the kid’s direction. Depending on how you feel about about Ovi, this either confirmed his persona of a jerk who smacks the camera out of the hand of women, or it was an innocent mistake. At worst, a benign bit of smack.↵↵Careful observers note that this is something Ovechkin does all the time, only last night there just happened to be a kid sitting in his way. Nevertheless, it will give cause to his detractors to deride him for his supposedly reckless play. Ovechkin defenders will then make a snide and unfair dig at Sidney Crosby, even though no one has mentioned Crosby, because somehow commentary on one ultimately necessitates discussion of the other. A protracted and tedious slapfight will then ensue until the other player makes a noteworthy flub that is caught on YouTube and the tedious process begins anew.↵
