Baseball Fanaticism: Coming to a Lawn Near You

If you buy something from a link, Vox Media may earn a commission. See our ethics statement.

You’ve got season tickets, a jersey, a cap, autographs and posters for your favorite baseball team, but something is missing. Your lifestyle still doesn’t scream “baseball” enough just yet despite the fact that you’ve got a tattoo of your team’s mascot across your back. Of course, the next logical step is to curate a lawn at home that is intended to replicate the thick green grass of your favorite team’s stadium. Enter Scotts Lawn Care and the MLB Authentic Collection. Here’s one example with the Cincinnati Reds and Great American Ballpark:↵↵⇥-- Designed by the Head Groundskeeper of the Cincinnati Reds™, Doug Gallant↵⇥
↵⇥-- Contains actual varieties used at Great American Ballpark®â†µâ‡¥
↵⇥-- High performance mix that spreads to repair wear and tear↵⇥
↵⇥-- Deep emerald green color for exceptional visual appeal↵⇥
↵⇥-- Kid and pet friendly↵⇥
↵⇥-- Available where lawn and garden products are sold in Cincinnati and surrounding areas including Louisville, Lexington and Dayton, April 2010.↵↵Fair warning: If you use this particular grass seed mix, you’re obligated to erect something that looks like the Pepsi Power Stacks somewhere in your yard. Wrigley Field, Fenway Park, Busch Stadium and Citizens Bank Park are also available from Scotts.↵↵This opens up great possibilities in other areas. Can you imagine such a series of products for golf courses? “Plant Augusta National in your back yard today!” The real shame is that this didn’t come along in the days of the old Astroturf stadiums in Houston and Seattle and other places with bad carpet. We could’ve experienced an interior decorating revolution.↵
