Rising lightweight star Anthony Pettis was able to put on a well-rounded display in dispatching of veteran Alex Karalexis. Starting with a jumping switch kick early in the first round Karalexis was in trouble. Pettis would go on to control the first round by landing heavy leg kicks that actually forced Karalexis to change to a southpaw stance to take his damaged left leg out of danger.

In the second round Karalexis came out with some urgency and managed to get a double leg takedown into top position only to have Pettis scramble back to his feet. Karalexis got inside for yet another takedown but as he attempted to dive into the guard with a punch Pettis threw his legs up and sunk a deep triangle choke. With no escape the veteran of the first season of The Ultimate Fighter was forced to tap out.
With the win Pettis improved to 9-1 in his career and 3-1 in the WEC.
