In the last bout of the Spike TV prelims Leonard Garcia edged out Chan Sung Jung in one of the best fights that I have ever seen in my time as an MMA fan. From the opening bell both men were throwing everything they had into each strike. During various periods of every round both men were hurt and survived only to start throwing punches back.
WEC 48 Results: Leonard Garcia Edges Chan Sung Jung In Epic War
Jung walked forward the entire fight, eating some huge right hands from Garcia. Despite Leonard landing repeatedly Jung was able to get close and unload combination punches and knees. Garcia appeared to be the fresher man heading into the third round and was able to land hard leg kicks early in the deciding round. Jung would eventually turn up the heat late in the round and start to land hard punches of his own before the final bell.
The official scorecards were 29-28 Garcia, 29-28 Jung, 29-28 Garcia to give Leonard Garcia the split decision victory.
I may be caught up in the moment, but despite the sloppy nature of the fight this was one of the best fights I can recall ever watching. The sheer drama of each man having great moments and the fight repeatedly seeming like it was on the end of being finished before shifting back the other direction was amazing.
These two men earned the $60,000 fight of the night bonus that is no doubt coming their way.
