The Diski, Official Dance of the 2010 World Cup, Brought to You By Awkwardness
The dance the folks in Sandton, South Africa are doing in the above video is called the diski. It’s the official dance of the 2010 World Cup. It comes with other instructional videos. And it manages to make at least one person per rendition look profoundly awkward.
Perhaps, of course, this is because the folks of Sandton, “Africa’s richest square mile,“ aren’t quite in tune with the rhythms of soccer that clearly influence the dance. Or perhaps it’s just because the dance will make anyone with balance problems look dumb. Either way, the diski is way less annoying -- and less dangerous -- than the vuvuzelas that will be fixtures at every Cup match.
Then again, a swarm of mosquitoes a foot from my face might be less annoying than the vuvuzelas.
