With the Reds down 4-3, Rolen opened the eighth with a base hit to left. Two batters later, Bruce lined a shot into the right-field corner, and the relay throw got away from Gonzalez, allowing Rolen to score the tying run. Bruce moved up to third on the error and came in on Hernandez’s opposite-field single to right.
The hosts tied it in the bottom half on consecutive two-out RBI singles by Bruce and Hernandez, who was thrown out trying to stretch his hit into a double.
