Leon Washington’s Wife Less Than Thrilled With Jets

Along with LenDale White, the arrival of Leon Washington via trade allowed the Seahawks to transform their backfield over the course of a weekend. While the rumors had been circulating for some time that Washington wasn’t long for remaining a member of the Jets, his signing a one-year tender for $1.7 million a week before the draft had been enough to suggest to him that maybe the team would have him stick around to be in the mix with Shonn Greene and LaDainian Tomlinson next season.↵↵But once the Jets traded up in the fourth round to select USC running back Joe McKnight, by all indications that spelled the end for Washington with the team. Soon enough the running back entering 2010 hoping to rebound from a compound fracture of the tibia and fibula was dealt to the Seahawks with a seventh round pick in exchange for a fifth rounder. Leon was on a fishing trip with now-former teammate Chris Baker when the trade went down, but when informed of it, he welcomed the move as a welcome change of pace.↵
↵↵His wife, however, was a little more pointed in her comments.↵
↵↵⇥Washington’s wife, Charity, was less diplomatic on Twitter, writing, “Good Luck paying the 20 people due contracts @ the end of the season. Lol. Thank You Jesus for getting us out of here.” Charity Washington made her Twitter account private later in the day after the media re-posted her scorching farewell to New York.↵↵↵In all likelihood, Charity’s frustrations are more in line with what Leon has felt than what he told the Daily News. He’s just considerably more disciplined when speaking in public and in social media so as not to give potentially controversial quotes. Nonetheless, it won’t mean much for Leon going forward, though it may tip some of the unease others in the Jets locker room are feeling about their soon to be expiring contracts.↵
