Tatame reported the following earlier (translated by Chris Nelson of Bloody Elbow):
Strikeforce Heading To Australia For Josh Barnett v. Geronimo ‘Mondragon’ dos Santos?
Heavyweight Geronimo “Mondragon” [Dos Santos] is training hard for the biggest fight of his career. After winning eight of his last nine bouts in Brazil, the athlete will face Josh Barnett, former UFC champion, in Strikeforce on July 17th. The show will mark the first for the American promotion outside of the United States, bringing the best of fighting to Australia.
hang tight guys! big announcement coming today!
One would assume that big announcement would be Strikeforce putting on it’s first Australian event.
The real unfortunate thing here is that it is clear that Barnett would get put on an non-American card to avoid having to work through all the problems caused by his suspension from a positive steroid test prior to the Affliction: Trilogy event. The positive here is that Barnett against Fedor is still a somewhat interesting fight given the history of the previous attempts to make the fight happen.
We should have confirmation shortly on if this is indeed Strikeforce’s “big news.”
