Mets Keep Winning, Dodgers Keep Losing: L.A. Swept In N.Y.

Flushing, NY (Sports Network) - John Maine worked six-plus innings in his longest outing of the season to push the Mets past Los Angeles 7-3 on a windy day at Citi Field.

New York completed a three-game series sweep and has won seven in a row and 10 out of 12, while the reeling Dodgers have dropped four straight and return home after a 2-7 road trip.

The Mets win streak is their longest since they also won seven straight from May 4 through May 10 last season. They also picked up their major-league leading 11th win at home.

Jamey Carroll had a hit, walked twice and scored twice for the Dodgers.

Los Angeles starter John Ely, making his major league debut, got through the first inning unscathed but ran into trouble in the second. David Wright led off with a double, his club-record 226th, and scored the first run of the game on Jeff Francoeur fielder’s choice grounder. Angel Pagan tripled home two runs with two outs and came in to score when Alex Cora followed with a double to finish off a four-run rally. Pagan had collected only three hits in his prior 27 at-bats.

The Dodgers first run came across in the third when a Jose Reyes throwing error with two outs allowed Carroll to score from third base.

The Mets got the run right back in the bottom half of the frame when Francoeur poked a double into right field to chase home Jason Bay.

Los Angeles crept back into the game in the fifth when Russell Martin belted a two-run home run, his second of the season, that cut the lead to 5-3.

Ely was lifted after six innings during which he allowed six hits, walked three, fanned four and threw 116 pitches. He was acquired by the Dodgers in an off-season trade that sent veteran outfielder Juan Pierre to the Chicago White Sox.

Maine was taken out after a leadoff walk to Carroll in seventh. He had not gone longer than five innings in any of his first four turns. Fernando Nieve came on to retire pinch-hitter Reed Johnson on a fly ball and induced Martin to bounce into an inning-ending double play.

Bay doubled home a run and came around to score on an Ike Davis single against Ronald Belisario in the home half of the seventh to push the home team’s lead to 7-3.

Pedro Feliciano recorded the last two outs in the eighth inning for New York and was followed in the ninth by Francisco Rodriguez, who struck out Carroll and pinch-hitter Garrett Anderson with runners at second and third to end the game.

The Mets finished their homestand at 9-1, equaling the best homestand in team history. They took nine out of ten from San Diego, San Francisco and Los Angeles from August 16-24, 1969 and again from Pittsburgh, Chicago, Montreal and Philadelphia between September 12-22, 1988...Mets starters have yielded only 14 earned runs over 79 innings in the last 14 games (1.60 earned run average)...Wright had two hits and finished the series 6-for-10 after picking up only seven hits in prior 42 at-bats...Ely was 2-1 with a 3.00 ERA in three starts at Triple-A Albuquerque..Los Angeles outfielder Matt Kemp has now gone seven straight games without driving in a run...The Dodgers have lost seven straight road series, their longest such streak since they dropped 12 in a row during the 1979 season.
