Texas’ Avery Bradley Likely To Remain In NBA Draft

Bad news for Rick Barnes and the Texas Longhorns: star freshman Avery Bradley looks likely to remain in the NBA Draft, according to Jeff Goodman of Fox Sports. Bradley technically has until May 8th to make a final decision as to whether to pull his name out or not.

Bradley had previously declared for the NBA Draft but had declined to sign with an agent, keeping alive the possibility that he could return to school. The 6’3” Bradley is projected as a late first-round pick in this year’s draft as a combo guard, with ESPN’s Chad Ford and Draft Express ranking him 21st and 27th respectively.

Bradley’s apparent decision to remain in the draft probably means he’s confident he’ll be a first-round pick; players picked in the first round receive guaranteed contracts, so that’s usually the barometer for whether a player will stay in or not. Still, considering how loaded the 2010 class is shaping up to be -- with over 100 prospects, including 80 US college players and 20 internationals applying for draft (which only has 60 spots) -- it wouldn’t be altogether too shocking to see Bradley fall to the top of the second round.

Bradley averaged 11.6 points per game for Texas last season.
