Seton Hall junior forward Herb Pope was rushed to the hospital on Wednesday afternoon after he collapsed during an on-campus workout, according to the Newark Star-Ledger. Pope was taken to nearby St. Barnabas Medical Center around 4:10 PM, where he underwent tests to determine what caused his collapse.
Seton Hall’s Herb Pope Hospitalized After Collapsing During Workout
The 6’8” Pope -- who led the Big East in rebounding this past season -- had declared for the NBA Draft, and was working out as he continued his pre-draft preparations. Pope, however, has not signed with an agent, and has until May 8th to decide whether to remain in the draft or return for his senior season.
This past season was Pope’s first at Seton Hall after transferring from New Mexico State -- and it was not without controversy. While the Pirates had one of their more successful seasons in recent memory, qualifying for the NIT tournament, the season ended ignominiously for Pope, who was ejected in the final game of their season for punching an opposing player in the groin -- twice.
