Jurgen Klinsmann Joins ESPN World Cup Coverage

ESPN announced today that Jürgen Klinsmann will join the network’s coverage of this summer’s World Cup.

Klinsmann won the tournament as a player in 1990 with Germany and coached the Nationalmannschaft to the a third-place finish at the 2006 finals, after which he left the national team to coach Bayern Munich. Following his near-year at the Allianz Arena, Klinsmann has been out of the game, living in California, where he has resided for the last decade.

Klinsmann joins a team that includes fell-high profile members Martin Tyler, Efan Ekoku, Ian Darke, Steve McManaman, Ruud Gullit, and Robbie Mustoe. They will be joined by the ESPN personalities we have become acquainted with through the network’s regular soccer coverage: Adrian Healey, Derek Rae, John Harkes, Alexi Lalas, amongst others.

JP Dellacamera and Tommy Smyth will partner to present matches on ESPN Radio.

Klinsmann is a former West German, German, and England Football Writers’ Association Player of the Year who accumulated 108 caps and 47 goals for his national team. During his club career, which started at Stuttgart, Klinsmann played for Internazionale, Monaco, Tottenham, Bayern Munich, and Sampdoria. He was a part of teams that won two UEFA Cups, a Bundesliga title, and Italian Super Cup, and the 1996 European Championship.
