Video: Finish Of Denny Hamlin’s Race At Southside Speedway

Denny Hamlin had never won a Late Model race at his home track, Southside Speedway.

↵And he still hasn’t.

↵Despite leading by far the most laps during his Denny Hamlin Foundation charity race on Thursday night in front of an overflow crowd, Hamlin got bumped out of the way on the final corner of the race by relative unknown C.E. Falk.

↵Hamlin was frustrated and disappointed after the race, but wasn’t angry.

↵The same can’t be said for his girlfriend, Jordan Fish, which is obvious by her reaction to the finish. The contact between the drivers isn’t visible in this video, but Fish’s reaction tells the story (it’s worth noting Fish is a dancer for the NBA’s Charlotte Bobcats, so she has some practice with cheering).

↵

↵As you can see, Falk ended up with the win and Tony Stewart finished second. Hamlin dropped to fourth.

↵

↵↵Hamlin had a sizable lead before a late green-white-checkered but elected to restart on the outside. He said Falk hit him in the door and caused him to wash up the track in the final turn.

↵“I’m sure right now he’s waking up smiling knowing he had Tony Stewart right behind him and me right in front of him, knocked me out of the way and got the win and beat Tony to the line,” Hamlin said. “It’s a great story for him. I can’t say I would be any different if I was in that same situation.”

↵Other Sprint Cup drivers such as Kyle Busch, Kevin Harvick, Joey Logano and Bobby Labonte were taken out by earlier wrecks. Marcos Ambrose, Elliott Sadler and Aric Almirola also participated, among others.
