Masters champ Phil Mickelson has put himself in prime position to compete for back-to-back titles after shooting at 4-under 68 on Friday at the Quail Hollow Championship.
Phil Mickelson Shoots Second Round 68 At Quail Hollow Championship, Now 6-Under
Mickelson started his front nine on a tear, scoring two birdies and an eagle. He finished with nothing but pars, however, tallying 10 in a row.
Phil is now 6-under for the tournament, one behind the current leader Bo Van Pelt. Even if Van Pelt, or someone else, scores well today, Mickelson should still be in the mix this weekend.
Elsewhere from the morning pairings, Mickelson’s playing partner Jim Furyk bounced back form a rough first round to shoot a 7-under 65, 10 strokes better than Thursday’s performance. He’s now 4-under for the tournament.
Dustin Johnson matched Furyk’s round, also shooting a 65 on Friday, to put himself in a tie for second place with Mickelson and J.P. Hayes.
