NASCAR’s schedule is always a topic for debate, but it’s typically about which tracks should have races on which weekends.
Writer: NASCAR’s Off Weeks Are Scheduled At The Wrong Times
↵You know, the whole “Vegas deserves a second date!” or “Give a race back to Rockingham!” discussion.
↵
But Associated Press writer Jenna Fryer brings up another point in her column today: Why NASCAR should re-evaluate its placement of the off-weeks.
↵After all, some of the sport’s early-season momentum has been killed by poorly timed breaks in the schedule.
↵First, there was an off-week after the Carl Edwards/Brad Keselowski incident at Atlanta; then, the Sprint Cup Series was off immediately following Denny Hamlin’s amazing dash through the field in the final laps at Martinsville.
↵Writes Fryer:
↵↵That’s right: Two breaks over the first six weeks of the season, followed by two breaks over the final 31 weeks. There’s no room for makeup days when rain washes out an event. But there’s a long stretch of racing over the dog days of summer that leaves everyone desperate for a break.
