The flap over whether an injured Wayne Rooney tried to sneak a beer while watching Manchester United lose to Chelsea seems like nothing compared to Burnley’s Kevin McDonald, who after being substituted out at halftime of his club’s 6-1 loss on Saturday to Man City, left to go down the street to watch the remainder of the slaughter at a local bar with his dad.↵

↵↵Granted, the team was already down 5-0 when McDonald was yanked at the half, but obviously that doesn’t excuse the dereliction of duty to his fellow teammates. His embattled coach, Brian Laws, already facing claims that he fails to inspire his relegation-zone squad, had to take his absent player to task for peacing out for half a game. Naturally, a tersely worded statement of contrition was to follow from McDonald.↵

It was a gross misjudgment and I should have remained at Turf Moor to support my club and teammates. ↵⇥↵⇥ “I acknowledge that I also showed a serious lack of respect to the fans who pay good money to watch their team play.”↵⇥
↵↵↵I think that covers all the bases, unless he neglected to tip the bartender. Wouldn’t want to jeopardize the quality of service for the next time he skips out early.↵
