Where Steve Spurrier coaches, a rapidly whirling quarterbacking carousel follows in his smoky black footsteps. South Carolina is not the draw that 1990s Florida was, however, and the Ol’ Ballcoach has suffered unusual attrition at the position of late. This makes his patented habit of yanking his QBs at the first sign of trouble harder to feed, and he’s really starting to boil over when it comes to erstwhile discipline case and current not-spectacular player Stephen Garcia:
Shocking South Carolina Quarterback Controversy Is Shocking
↵“If we’re going to win big here, the quarterback’s got to play well,” Spurrier said. “He’s got to really play well. He can’t play like Stephen did last year. […] “He just has to play well and maybe we haven’t coached Stephen very well, but he plays undisciplined.”↵Ouch. Garcia may not be a world-beater under center, but quite frankly he’s provided us with so much entertainment over the past couple years that I’m more inclined to take his side. Can we pass a hat and fit him with a custom-airbrushed rubber mask in the shape of Danny Wuerffel’s face? It’s about the only protection that’ll cool Spurrier’s veins without a word of protest.
