Junior Dos Santos Steps In To Fight Roy Nelson At UFC 116
Cheick Kongo has withdrawn from a rumored meeting with Nelson at UFC 116 due to a back injury, according to multiple reports. In his place, the UFC has slotted a surprising replacement: Junior Dos Santos.
Dos Santos has to be the heavy favorite coming into this fight. Nelson has always had trouble with big strikers. He has a very powerful overhand right but when he’s being pressured and hit in the face he resorts to attempting to get the fight to the ground. Getting the much bigger and stronger Dos Santos to the ground will not be an easy task. And once the fighters are on the ground it will an opportunity to see if Junior Dos Santos is a legitimate brown belt in BJJ.
If Nelson does manage the win he will prove that he belongs in the title conversation. A win by Dos Santos probably leaves him in the same spot he is in now which is vying with Cain Velasquez for the title shot following the Brock Lesnar/Shane Carwin bout.
