Marquis Feels Pain In Rehab Appearance, Set To Miss 2-3 Months

Jason Marquis has been out of action since April 19th with bone chips in his elbow. On Tuesday, he made his first minor league rehab start with Class-A Potomac, and initial reports were good:

“We got him through the outing, no issues,” Harris said. “He accomplished his 50 pitches and felt good afterward. That’s the biggest thing we accomplished.”

However, worse news has since come out:

RHP Jason Marquis said he did not feel comfortable on the mound while pitching for Potomac. He will likely be out 8 to 10 weeks.

The contradictory reports are confusing, but the bigger issue is that, where the Nationals thought they might have a guy on the road to recovery, he’s actually likely to go under the knife. As such, he’s going to be out for 2-3 months, by which point one wonders if there will be an opening in the rotation.
