Here’s something you rarely see: a pitcher working on a no-hitter and then getting pulled after the 6th inning with it still intact.
Stephen Strasburg Pitches No-Hitter -- In Six Innings
↵It’s rare, but at least in this case, it makes sense.
↵Nationals rookie sensation Stephen Strasburg, who was just promoted to Triple-A two weeks ago, made the start against Norfolk Wednesday night and held them hitless through six. But instead of going an inning or two or three more to try and secure the no-hitter, he was pulled after 80 pitches.
↵And absolutely no one -- not even Strasburg himself -- can be upset by this.
↵The Nationals are just protecting their investment. Why make him throw potentially another 40 pitches? It’s just a Triple-A game. It doesn’t matter. You don’t spend $15 million on a pitcher so he overuses his arm in a Triple-A game where dogs catch frisbees between innings.
↵What really matters is making sure Strasburg is healthy come the time the Nationals call him up. Which -- by the way he’s pitching -- shouldn’t be all too long from now. (But not before May 17th’s game because I have tickets to it. And I swear, if Strasburg gets called up before then, I will make sure the Internet is never the same ever again. Feel my wrath, Washington Nationals.)
