Is NASCAR To Blame For Danica Patrick’s IndyCar Struggles?

Danica Patrick is 16th in Izod IndyCar Series points headed into the Indianapolis 500 with only one top-10 finish, which has raised an obvious question: Did dabbling in NASCAR affect her performance in the IRL?

↵

↵↵Patrick began her NASCAR career this season with three finishes outside the top 30, and her lack of success has apparently leaked over to the IRL, where she is behind all of her Andretti Autosport teammates in the standings.

↵But Patrick dismissed the NASCAR influence on her lackluster season, saying it was an “easy excuse” and “I don’t think there’s anything to it.”

↵During a conference call with reporters this week – that ended abruptly when Patrick apparently lost her connection (it will be concluded Friday) – Patrick was unable to offer any solid explanations.

↵“Yeah, I’ve had a bad start to the year,” she said. “You know, it happens. Nothing to say about it. Every now and again I would imagine a lot of athletes have a year where they just aren’t where they want to be and I’m not this year. If the answer was as simple as going, ‘This is what I’m going to do to fix it,’ I would know that and it would have been done already.”

↵Can she reverse her slide?

↵

"I have some ideas to take it in a better direction," she said. "At the moment, we're all working hard. It's not from a lack of trying."
