Congratulations To Kenny Anderson, College Graduate

With professional sports, it’s not often you see a story that’s just plain, awesome. But Kenny Anderson, who conformed to a lot of the worst athlete cautionary tales in squandering $60 million on child support and a lavish lifestyle throughout his NBA career, is flipping the script with this one. On Saturday, after making it big in the NBA (and losing most of it), Kenny Anderson will graduate from St. Thomas University, in Miami, Florida. From the New York Times:

↵↵“My son sees me with books in my knapsack and he says, ‘You’re 39 years old, you’re still going to school?’ ” Anderson said of his son Ken Jr., 9.

↵A neighbor told him about the Institute for Professional Studies at St. Thomas, so he enrolled for his online program by himself — without a cadre of helpers hovering over him. He began working with an adviser, Jennifer Booker, who is a professor.

↵“People would recognize me and congratulate me on what I was doing,” Anderson said.

↵↵Check out the full story here, and really, think about it like this: Just when Kenny Anderson appeared destined to fade into obscurity as another cautionary tale, he’s emerged as just the opposite. Pretty awesome turnaround for Kenny right there.
