Detroit, MI (Sports Network) - Miguel Cabrera cracked a solo home run and knocked in three, and Justin Verlander scattered four hits over 6 2/3 innings, as the Detroit Tigers handled the New York Yankees, 6-0, in the finale of a four-game series at Comerica Park.

Brennan Boesch went 2-for-3 with a solo homer and scored twice, while Gerald Laird contributed two hits and two RBI for Detroit, which took three of the four games in the set and has won four of its last six overall.
Verlander (4-2) had four strikeouts and as many walks, and improved to 4-2 in seven career starts against the Yankees.
Jorge Posada had two hits, while Derek Jeter and Brett Gardner each singled for New York, which has dropped four of five. CC Sabathia (4-2) took the loss for allowing nine hits and six runs over six frames, with no walks and four strikeouts.
Verlander got out of some two-out trouble in the top of the second and the Tigers broke through for a run in the home half. Boesch doubled with one away, and two batters later Laird’s run-scoring bloop single to right gave Detroit the early lead.
Cabrera and Boesch belted back-to-back homers to right in the fourth to make it a 3-0 game. Then, with runners on first and second and nobody out in the sixth, Cabrera lined a two-run double to center. Later in the inning, Laird’s RBI single plated Cabrera for a 6-0 lead.
Joel Zumaya took over for Verlander with runners on first and second and two outs in the seventh, and retired Mark Teixeira on a fly ball to left.
Zumaya pitched out of some more two-out trouble in the eighth, and Eddie Bonine retired the side in the ninth in quick order to end the game.
Yankees outfielder Nick Swisher sat out the game with tightness in his left biceps and is listed as day-to-day...Yankees pitcher Ivan Nova made his major league debut and allowed two hits and struck out one in two innings...New York went 0-for-8 with runners in scoring position and stranded 11, while Detroit finished 3-for-9 with RISP and left four men on base.
