The Royals are just 12-23, and already 10.5 games out of first place in the AL Central. Looking for answers, the club fired Trey Hillman on Thursday, abruptly ending the manager's third year with the team.
Trey Hillman Fired By Royals, Ned Yost Will Takeover
Ned Yost, who served as the manager of the Brewers from 2003-08, will takeover in Kansas City.
Hillman ends his time in the Fountain City with a 152-207 record (.423 Win%), having never finished better than fourth place in the Central (in 2008, with a 75-87 mark). Still though, his firing today comes as somewhat of a surprise, only because GM Dayton Moore made a point on Monday to say that no changes were coming. So much for that.
According to Yahoo!‘s Jeff Passan, the move is the result of decisions Moore made in just the past 24 hours. “It’s a collection of things that occurred,” Moore said.
Yost, who joined the Royals as a special advisor to the Royals after his time in Milwaukee, is a surprising choice, writes our Royals blog, Royals Review, considering he left the Brewers because he was fired.
Ned Yost... well, alright. Don't fully see the point. I'm not sure why Dayton would want to remind people of Milwaukee, since their turnaround under Melvin defies his argument that you need ten years to build a winner. Yost is the same guy those same Brewers fired in the last two weeks of a pennant race, which I guess gives him a good ice-breaker when he chats with Jose Guillen.
