Finally, Allen Iverson’s Rap Career Gets a Proper Release

Once upon a time, Allen Iverson recorded a rap (NSFW) that was vile enough—there’s homophobia and gunplay galore at that link—that David Stern stepped in to try to get lyrics changed. Iverson dropped the mic for good shortly after that incident, relegating his career as “Jewelz” and that song, “40 Bars,” to the realm of trivia.

But now, thanks to the Internet and whoever’s making Allen Iverson’s bad decisions for him, you can hear the album he was working on! Misunderstood, a ten-song album that features A.I. on, er, four songs, is available for sampling here and there’s a link there to purchase it for the low, low price of $2.99.

Personally, I’d rather have a few things off of the dollar menu at a fine fast food establishment than listen to grade-C flows from an A-list NBA player. And it’s not like there aren’t other ballers who can actually rhyme out there, or other free opportunities to hear Iverson over a good beat; this album is the sort of thing that, like the Answer’s career, would have been a big deal in 2001, but seems like a curiosity at best in 2010.
