Shortly before 1:30pm EDT Josh Gross of SI tweeted the following regarding Don King’s seeming success in preventing tonight’s Shine Fights bout between Ricardo Mayorga and Din Thomas:
Don King Promotions Gets Injunction To Stop Mayorga/Thomas; Shine Fights Says Fight Will Happen Regardless
Broward Country Circuit Court Judge Marc C. Gold ruled in favor of Don King Productions, granting injunctive relief at 1:20 p.m. ET.
At that point it looked like the fight was off as a court injunction mere hours before the scheduled time of the fight leaves Shine Fights with no time to seek a replacement, nor any time to figure out legal options to go ahead with the fight. However, now Gross tweets:
This is gonna get fun now. Shine Fights says they will ignore the injunctive relief and move forward with the fight tonight.
Going ahead with the fight would likely put the promotion in contempt as well as opening up a huge lawsuit for King. The most likely scenario here is that Shine continues to say the fight is on to save their pay per view buys and then during the show announce that they have been forced to cancel the bout. Anything other than that is going to lead to a whole lot of trouble for Shine. It is, however, now somewhat “must see TV” to see if the fight actually goes down.
