Sad story first: Matt McChesney, a lineman whose career has been littered with injuries, will probably be forced into retirement. From our Broncos blog, Mile High Report:
Sad Story/Happy Story, Denver Broncos Edition
↵↵McChesney was getting out of his own [golf] cart to hit his ball when a trailing cart accidentally hit him on the same ankle in which he had surgery last offseason.
↵↵The difference between “sad” and “mad” is usually the inability to find someone to be mad at. All we can do is feel sorry for the guy unless we really want to direct our anger at the nameless rube who can’t drive a golf cart.
↵Anyway, time for the happy story: Dicky Lyons, a promising wide receiver/kick returner who suffered a potentially career-ending injury during his senior season at Kentucky, has been signed by the Broncos. Anyone familiar with his story can appreciate the significance of this news. Here’s an excerpt from True Blue, a biography written about the Lyons football family:
↵↵At the moment of impact that resulted in his son’s injury, [retired NFL quarterback] Dicky Lyons, Sr. had a close view of the play. [He] was watching the game on closed-circuit monitors and the camera was tight on the catch when his son went down. All too familiar with the possibilities that could result from a leg being twisted and taken down like that, Lyons, Sr. immediately threw his cell phone and disappeared into the crowd.
↵↵Stay away from golf carts, sir.
