Henry is reported to have a pre-contract agreement with Red Bull New York, an agreement confirmed by a source within Major League Soccer (according to a second report). With one year left on his deal with Barcelona, compensation may need to be negotiated before Henry can come to the United States.
Barcelona Give Thierry Henry Permission To Leave Club
It’s still a mystery whether Thierry Henry has actually signed with Red Bull New York or not. However, a transfer to the MLS or anywhere else, for that matter, became a lot more realistic today. Barcelona, Henry’s current club, have given him permission to leave the team even though he has a year remaining on his contract.
Depending which way you look at it, this is both good and bad news for the French striker. Henry didn’t see the pitch very often last season as he struggled to find form and favor with Barcelona head coach Pep Guardiola. Following the season, Henry was part of the French team that crashed and burned in embarrassing fashion in South Africa leading to a national investigation. This most recent development just continues a poor last couple months for the soccer legend. However, Henry will have an opportunity to resurrect his storied career. While it seems likely that he’ll end up in New York, it has been rumored that West Ham of the English Premier League also have strong interest in acquiring the services of the 32-year-old striker.
