HEY-O! The headline’s the joke, see.
Roy Williams And Tony Romo? A Modern-Day Montana-Rice!
(Wait, he actually said that?)
From Sports Radio Interviews:
Just to be quite honest with you, [Tony and I] were missing balls, and bad throws and drops and all that in the offseason that carried over to the season. But this year, we’re connecting like Montana and Rice. It’s night and day from last year so I know we’re expecting big things for both of us.
Oh, great.
That comment was prompted by Roy Williams’ discussion of Dez Bryant, the newest addition to the Dallas Cowboys offense. According to Williams, he embraced the decision as motivation, beacuse “people are thinking that I’m the odd man out in this situation.” And by people, he means Cowboys fans like me, who aren’t “thinking” that he’s the odd man out, but hoping. You know how with bad decisions, sometimes it’s best to just pretend they never happened?
That’s how I feel about Roy Williams.
He was acquired for a two valuable draft picks (first and third), he's in the middle of a 6-year, $54 million contract, and he's just not very good. He's dropped balls, he's been easily injured, and he's done it all with a truly bizarre hubris that (rightfully) rubs everyone the wrong way. As he told the Dallas Morning News last week, "Ain't no such thing as me sitting on the bench." He forgot to add, "...except when I tweak my ankle and sit out for a month"
So, will Roy and Romo suddenly become Montana and Rice?
Color me skeptical.
