From the Strikeforce Press Release:
Bobby Lashley To Fight Ron Sparks At June Strikeforce Event
Former WWE superstar Bobby Lashley (5-0) will square off with fellow undefeated Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) heavyweight Ron “The Monster” Sparks (5-0) when STRIKEFORCE hits Nokia Theatre L.A. LIVE on Wednesday, June 16.
“I’m excited about fighting again,” Bobby Lashley said. “I’ve been working very hard and I am continuing to learn. The guy I am fighting is huge. This will be a great fight.”
“I like to get in and get the job done,” said the hard-hitting Ron Sparks. “My last fight went all four rounds, but there is nothing I enjoy more than knocking a person out.”
“Trust me, we’re going to go down swinging,” Sparks said. “There will be no tap-outs. I am grateful of the opportunity STRIKEFORCE is giving me and I am very confident of a victory.”
Fans may remember Ron Sparks as the man who was set to be Ray Mercer’s second MMA opponent before the fight was canceled at the last minute. One well known MMA journalist described the announcement of this fight as the two men with the least impressive 5-0 records in the sport clashing.
Sparks has been beating guys with basically no professional experience while Lashley has done everything except take steps up in his competition.
It is doubtful that this fight does anything to eliminate the criticism sent in the direct of Lashley as it should be a very easy win for him, and a loss would likely end any hopes for him ever being able to compete at the championship level.
