France’s World Cup squad is nearly set, with coach Raymond Domenech having trimmed his 30-man provisional squad to 24 – only central defender William Gallas’s fitness preventing the 2006 finalists from finalizing their squad.
France Trims Six, World Cup Roster Now Down To 24
Domenech’s cuts where somewhat predictable.
Fourth goalkeeper Mickael Landreau has been trimmed, as has Rennes trio Rod Fanni, Yann M’Vila and Jimmy Briand. Lille’s Adil Rami has also been left-out. Marseille attacker Hatem Ben Arfa, the most recognizable name on the squad, also fails to make the team.
Domenech’s final cut looks likely to depend on William Gallas’s fitness. The Arsenal center back has not played since March 31. If Gallas regains his fitness, Bordeaux’s Marc Planus should be the final cut, with an outside chance Planus beats out Sevilla center half Sebastien Squillaci.
