The headline sort of says it all there, huh?
Um, That’s A Pretty Awful Distraction: Amare Stoudemire Watched His Mother Get Arrested This Weekend
From TMZ:
According to the report, police in Scottsdale, Arizona pulled Carrie over for allegedly driving erratically -- and eventually placed her in handcuffs for refusing to take a field sobriety test. But soon after the stop, another car -- a Bentley -- arrived on the scene.
Two incredibly tall men emerged from the car -- and a responding officer claims he recognized one of them as Amare. According to the report, Carrie began kicking the patrol car and yelling for Amar’e to “get a lawyer.”
Amare Stoudemire has caught a lot of flack over the years for lack of effort and attitude problems, but this is one thing that he doesn’t get nearly enough credit for--dealing with his mom. These problems aren’t new.
In fact, Amare’s unstable family situation saw him bounce between six different high schools throughout his teens, as his mother bounced in and out of prison. Since making it to the NBA, he’s been able to distance himself from that turmoil, which is actually pretty impressive. But Saturday, two days before last night’s conference finals, his mother’s “issues” confronted him head on. From the Scottsdale Police Report:
Carrie stated she wanted her purse to go with him [Amare], but that she wanted her wallet to go with her. Carrie stated, “I don’t trust him, he will take all of my money!”
Carrie began to yell “Amare!” several times at the top of her lungs.
And later in the report:
I explained to the two male subjects that they needed to leave the scene because they were causing Carrie to act out. Amare put his head down and began to take a few steps toward Carrie with the second male subject. I told both male subjects that I was giving them a direct order to leave the scene. Amare stated to the second subject, “Come on.”
Amare and the second subject got in the Bentley and left the scene.
Damn. That’s pretty heartbreaking stuff right there. Hopefully Amare and his mother can get things worked out. But yeah... That just sucks.
