The race without a name gets a winner without a win: The Dover 200 Race Round-up

Almirola gets one to call his own

That's right friends, Aric Almirola, who 4ever3 stated just a few days ago that he had a lot to prove, finally proved it.

Aric took the #51 Toyota back to victory lane. Last year almost every race was won by the 51 (note, may be a blatant lie) with Kyle Busch driving.

Almirola took a truck sponsored by a chemical company that just laid off about 50% of it’s work force, and won a race that didn’t even have a title sponsor.

So, is nascar being affected by this economy?

Let’s not forget, if it wasn’t for Mike Harmon bringing a truck to Dover at the last minute, this race would have been a driver short. This wouldn’t be the first time a truck race was short a driver or two. In fact it happened 6 times last year. Two of those races saw just 33 trucks race; Milwaukee and Fort Worth.

Milwaukee is no longer on the schedule due to them not having enough money to pay Nascar (which makes me sad being from Wisconsin and having watched many Milwaukee races live in the stands). So far, every race has had at least 36 entries.
Points, and a little more after the JUMP!

Some news for the coming week here:

  1. The race at Dover will mark the first time since 2005 that Rick Crawford of Mobile won't be starting in a NASCAR Camping World truck series race. Since 1997 Crawford has started 327 Truck races, missing just the one in 2005 at Kentucky after a hard crash during practice. But that streak comes to an end this week as his familiar No. 14 Ford has been parked for lack of a critical part -- a logo on the hood. Crawford and Circle Bar Racing owner Tom Mitchell have soldiered through this season without sponsorship, footing the bills out of pocket and hoping a new sponsor deal would come through. But it hasn't happened. Crawford isn't calling it quits. He's even considering the unthinkable -- switching from his beloved Ford to another manufacturer. Rick Crawford in a Toyota? That's one of those events often compared to the likelihood of ice skating in hell. And while it might cause heart flutters for fans of the Blue Oval, it should be remembered that Crawford hasn't left Ford. Ford, when it cut its support of truck teams, left Crawford.
  2. In 1998, Elliott Sadler made his first career NASCAR Sprint Cup Series start at Charlotte Motor Speedway with crew chief Butch Hylton atop the pit box. Twelve years later, Sadler returns to the 1.5-mile oval with 23 Cup Series starts and eight NASCAR Nationwide Series starts under his belt at the track, making his first start at Charlotte Motor Speedway in the Camping World Truck Series with crew chief Butch Hylton calling the race once again.
  3. With Almirola's win, he actually pulls into the point lead. Timothy Peters has been the point leader for the past 4 races. It's great to see some young guys up front.

It's also important to note that the race for owner championship heated up as well, Kevin Harvick's #2 fell from the top spot, and we have a new number one: Kyle Busch.

There is a race this weekend other than the All Star Race by the way. Tune in this Friday May 21st to Speed! at 7:30 pm eastern to catch the North Carolina Educatoin Lottery 200 from Charlotte North Carolina. We went from a race with 'No Name' to a race with the longest name we could think of. What is an Education Lottery anyway? Is it like, only a few residents get the really good schooling, and everyone else gets the teacher who got his GED while eating from a Cracker Jack Box?

Speaking of the All-Star race, wouldn't you love to see the All Star Race be run like the IROC cars once did? Have identically prepared cars, with drivers normal paint schemes? You could have everyone who won in the Cup, Nationwide and Truck Series, as well as the Rookie of the Year in all three race each other. I'd love to see Justin Allgaier, Aric Almirola, Brad Keselowski, Johnny Sauter, Joey Logano, and Ron Hornaday race against Jimmie Johnson, Jeff Gordon and Tony Stewart. One can dream.

Bodine actually is the most consistant, with 5 top 5s. But he hasn't won yet this year. The race for the top 25 locked-in spot heated up as the #21 Truck was bounced from the top 25 in favor of the #01 truck - thanks in huge part to Carl Long.

Here's how we stand right now:
