After finishing 11th at his hometown track, a place where his family has had season tickets for two decades, a frustrated Denny Hamlin called his result “unacceptable.”
Denny Hamlin Says Richmond Finish ‘Unacceptable’
Hamlin was never much of a factor throughout the evening, the result of the No. 11 car bottoming out on restarts.
“I should be able to run top-10 here running around on my feet,” he said. “For us to finish where we did, pretty disappointing.”
Hamlin said his car “slammed the race track” throughout the evening, and said the team never could make the problem go away. It was a problem throughout the entire weekend, he said, including practice.
“It was terrible and slow and we ended terrible and slow,” he said. “For a lot of guys, it’s a decent finish and it’s a good finish. For us, it’s a short track and it’s unacceptable.”
Still, Hamlin gained two spots in the point standings, moving to seventh.
