Unlike the rest of his team, Kyle Blanks hasn't had the kind of start to the season he was envisioning. Now he's going to get some time to mull things over, as he's headed to the disabled list with an elbow strain:
Elbow Strain Sends Kyle Blanks On Two-Week Vacation
Padres placed OF Kyle Blanks on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to May 18, with a right elbow strain.
Blanks underwent an MRI on Wednesday that revealed the strain.
Blanks initially felt the discomfort on Tuesday, becoming a late scratch from the lineup. It's not supposed to be a major injury, but with Blanks batting just .157 so far and Chris Denorfia ready and able to step in for a little while, it's a move that makes sense. The DL stint will give Blanks an opportunity to both rest his body, and clear his mind and refocus. The Padres still expect him to come back and provide some thunder in the middle of the order.
