Marcellus Wiley Corroborates Dwayne Bowe’s Sex Stories While Criticizing Chiefs WR

Earlier this week, it was reported that Chiefs receiver Dwayne Bowe, in a guest column in the ESPN The Magazine issue hitting newsstands today, let the world in on the seedy underbelly of NFL player life, which apparently includes frequent wild hotel sex parties with obsessed groupies who are already there to greet the players before they arrive. I don’t think such revelations came as an overpowering shock to most of the football-watching populace, but it was surprising to see a current player go on the record about such behavior.↵↵Though former teammate Jimmy Wilkerson disputed Bowe’s claims, another more notable former player has come forward to state that Bowe’s stories are fairly representative of the experiences of a lot of NFL players. ↵

↵↵Appearing on a Miami sports radio station, former defensive end and current analyst Marcellus Wiley (pictured) chastised Bowe because he “broke the code” of silence among NFL players about their off-the-field dealings with groupies. But by acknowledging the omerta, he confirmed what Bowe had said. Wiley offered a tale of his own about how women were arranged to appear in players’ rooms at the Bills hotel during a road trip to Seattle in 1999. ↵

↵↵At the same time that he volunteered his sordid experiences, Wiley went on to explain that such antics weren’t expected on every single road trip. Or even most of them. Mostly because of the effort that goes into organizing something on the level of what Bowe described. Instead, it would be much easier to arrange private trysts with your road beef. So while the wild crazy hotel parties may not be the norm, straying from wives and girlfriends is enough that Wiley guessed that as many as 80 percent of NFL players do it. ↵

↵↵Though I would assume those players would prefer that Wiley uphold the “code” as well.↵
