In interviews after Internazionale Milano’s 2-0 win over Bayern Munich in Saturday’s Champions League final, José Mourinho said he has likely coached his final match for the Italian champions.
Jose Mourinho Says He Has Likely Coached His Last Match With Inter Milan
Mourinho’s position with Milano was awash in speculation leading into the final amidst rumors he would move to Real Madrid this summer. Mourinho had previously said he eventually saw himself coaching the Spanish giants.
Eventually appears as if it could be next year, however, Mourinho was quick to say, while confirming he will likely leave, he did not have a deal with Real Madrid:
”It is more likely I’ll leave rather than I’ll stay.
”I’ve been really happy at Inter, not so much in Italian football for the way in which I’ve been treated.
”I’ll love Inter forever. I have big motivations with the risk (I am taking). This is the thing that makes me a different coach, with ambitions.
”Should I leave, I leave Italian football. But I thank it for what it did for me, because I’m better than when I arrived.
“But I want a different challenge. I’ve thought about it for two or three months. Now I want a few days to think more.”
”Now I’m really close to choosing a new professional way. Real Madrid? For the moment I have not spoken with any of them.
”At Inter they have had me a lot. We won everything and there is no more to do.
“For the moment I’ve not met anyone, I have not signed any deal, but now I’ll see.”
Mourinho is only the second coach to win Champions League with two different teams, having win the title with FC Porto in 2003-04.
Mourinho has previously said he wants to become the first manager to win titles in England, Italy and Spain. He won two English Premier League titles with Chelsea in 2004-05 and 2005-06, titles the last two years in Italy, but has never coached in Spain.
