It’s still entirely premature to look at this seriously. The Celtics, leading 3-1, are still in the driver’s seat against Orlando. Nobody’s saying otherwise, even after last night’s OT loss in Game Four. But... In the words of Avon Barksdale, “Dream with me, Slim.”
Shh... Nobody Talk About Boston Sports’ Worst Case Scenario
You’ll recall: The Boston Bruins faced this exact same scenario against the Philadelphia Flyers, taking a 3-0 lead into Game Four, only to lose that game in overtime, too. And then lose Game Five, Game Six, and worst of all, Game Seven, after leading 3-0 in the first period.
Now... What if it happened to the Celtics?
Needless to say, Boston fans didn’t appreciate the synergy between the Game Seven Bruins collapse and the trajectory of the series, in general. But can you imagine the crushing disappointment if they became the first city to ever surrender 3-0 series leads in two separate sports? In the same year?
For Boston-haters searching for schadenfreude, this would be nothing short of magical. And for Boston sports fans, who already see themselves as the “star-crossed lovers” of the sports universe, just think of the endless tides of self-pity that’d wash over the city, like a warm blanket of failure. Can’t you hear the call-ins to sports talk radio?
“OTH-AH SPORTS FANS SIMPLY CANNOT UNDAHSTAND OW-AH HAWTBREAK.”
...Again, it’s still early, and personally, I’d love to see a Celtics-Lakers finals. But it’s something to file away in the back of your mind, just in case Orlando makes this interesting.
Hey, did you see Rajon Rondo’s on the cover of Sports Illustrated this week?
