Will Spurrier’s Rough Treatment Of Stephen Garcia Rebound Into Greatness?
Chris Low asks, “What if Spurrier had praised Garcia?”, pointing out that South Carolina’s hard-livin’ quarterback led the conference in total offense last year but just can’t get no relief:
[W]hen Spurrier’s as down as he is on Garcia and talking openly about playing a true freshman (Connor Shaw) at quarterback next season, why would anybody name Garcia preseason All-SEC?
Better yet, why would anybody pick the Gamecocks in their preseason Top 25 or give them a realistic chance to unseat Florida in the Eastern Division race?
From a man who, at this point, seems determined to just get one great season out of the ‘Cocks before he departs for life at Augusta National, anything’s possible. But I’m grimly thankful to see the Ol’ Ballcoach burying his best hope under center. This will only make my (highly crackpot-y) theory of an Arkansas-South Carolina SEC Championship Game seem even more brilliant when it finally comes to fruition. Garcia won’t be another Danny Wuerffel, not for the OBC or any man, but after several years of the Tebow Child and be-banged golden Bama boys as SEC show ponies, a down-home dose of this guy would be as refreshing as a tall can of Sparks on a sweltering afternoon.
